Acupuncture And Generalized Anxiety Disorder
By Alien
The world is fast paced and highly competitive, which makes stress and anxiety a part of all of our lives. Acupuncture for generalized anxiety disorder can really help.

Acupuncture and Generalized Anxiety Disorder

There are many similarities between the clinical condition of a person suffering from and one experiencing generalized anxiety disorder. The anxiety disorders have to do more with the emotion of fear. A certain amount of anxiety is normal. Certain events in a person’s life are sure to cause a degree of it. It is when this normal anxiety slips out of control that it is recognized as a true disorder.

There are several types of anxiety disorders. Panic attacks are extreme feelings of fear and panic that occur suddenly and without warning. Obsessive-compulsive disorders cause unnatural fear over things that should not cause anxiety at all. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a reaction to experiencing or viewing a highly traumatic event. Phobias are irrational fears of certain things that normally would not inspire extreme fear in others. Then there is generalized anxiety disorder. This is a long term condition of almost constant anxiety over just about everything.

The Western Medical approach to the treatment of anxiety disorders is much like the treatment of depression. It has been recognized that anxiety is accompanied by certain chemicals that become unbalanced in the brain. So, the idea is to throw other chemicals at the problem in order to counter or mask the chemical unbalance. Concern about the root cause is not given such a high priority as quickly medicating the patient. In fact, many of the same chemicals that have been deemed useful in the treatment of are

also given for generalized anxiety disorders.

Acupuncture and generalized anxiety disorders make a lot of sense when it is accepted that extreme anxiety is not a normal state of the human nature. The chemicals that are out of balance are actually produced to help the body deal with stress and fear. The sudden increase in adrenaline levels is an example of this. Everyone has heard stories of panic stricken mothers lifting automobiles off their children. Traditional Chinese Medicine would accept the levels of chemicals as natural and see the unbalance of them as making perfect sense since something else is out of balance. This something else is the true underlying cause, and it is what the acupuncturist will find and treat.

There are many supplemental treatments used along with acupuncture for generalized anxiety disorder. Most of these are common and well known herbal concoctions. As is also usual with acupuncture, lifestyle and diet changes or restrictions might be part of the overall treatment approach. We are not made to live our life in fear and panic. When we do, it is a sign that something has gone seriously wrong. Chemicals can give temporary relief, but they often have serious side effects. Some of these are worse than the conditions they seek to alter. Acupuncture is a good alternative for generalized anxiety disorder.
